A nonprofit for longer-lived societies

We help communities, organizations, and leaders prepare for a longer-lived world.

The Shift Foundation is a nonprofit that runs training, research, and implementation programs so older adults, working families, organizations, and governments across Latin America can adapt to aging, longer lives, and multigenerational communities.

The long term
has arrived.

People are living longer. Birth rates are falling. Families and workplaces now include more generations than ever — but many public services, employers, and community programs were built for a younger population.

+30years
Life expectancy
Added to the average human life over the last century — roughly four more months every year.
−50%
Birth rates
A global decline. Many economies are now below the replacement level of about 1.9 children per woman.
2036
The tipping point
The year the world will have, for the first time, more people over 60 than under 10.

We close that gap by delivering programs that train leaders, support organizations, and help communities act on demographic change.

What We Do

Four programs. One mission: help people thrive as societies age.

Leadership & Training

02

Applied Research

We produce open research and regional data that help governments, nonprofits, and employers make better decisions for older adults and working families.

03

Standards & Implementation

We develop The Shift Standard and support organizations and governments as they implement practical steps for demographic readiness.

The Shift Standard

A practical guide organizations can implement

The Shift Standard helps employers, governments, and community organizations understand how longer lives and aging populations affect work, health, financial security, and public services — then take concrete steps to respond.

We support implementation so teams can assess readiness, prioritize actions, and improve outcomes for older adults, workers, and the communities they serve.

Programs seeking support

Your gift funds training for leaders, open research for decision-makers, and implementation support for organizations serving aging communities across Latin America.

Why Latin America

Latin America is aging faster than many developed regions did — with fewer resources and less time to prepare public services, workplaces, and community supports.

As people live longer and birth rates fall, older adults, working families, governments, and community organizations face systems designed for a younger population.

The Shift Foundation exists to accelerate that transition through training, applied research, standards, and implementation support — not commercial consulting.

How We Are Funded

Transparency matters

The Shift Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization funded through donations, grants, and philanthropic support. We do not operate as a commercial consultancy. Any revenue is reinvested into our mission.

We train leaders, deliver open research, and support organizations and governments as they implement solutions that help older adults, working families, and communities prepare for demographic change.

To expand real-world implementation, we collaborate with The Shift, an affiliated organization that works with businesses, institutions, and governments. The Foundation develops public-interest programs and standards; The Shift helps put them into practice.

Your support funds people and programs — not private consulting profits.
